Sara Mesa piše poeziju, kratke priče, romane i eseje.

/

Sara Mesa writes poetry, short stories, novels and essays. She has published six novels and three collections of stories and has won several prices for her literary work.

With her short story collections No es fácil ser verde [It’s Not Easy to Be Green; 2008], La sobriedad del galápago [The Sobriety of the Terrapin, 2009], and especially Mala letra (Bad Handwriting, 2016, translated to English), she has gained fame and critics have especially praised her concise, sharp writing style. She is considered one of the most interesting and personal voices writing in Spain today. In her works, she often researches problematic, unsettling human relationships, the ways we internalize pain and inflict it on others as well as deviation from norms, isolation, obsessions, and the hypocrisy of society.

Surovim i škrtim jezikom pred čitatelja iznosi bogatu paletu iskustava gubitka i proživljene muke te vjerno slikajući pakao bliskoistočnih sukoba progovara o bezizglednoj egzistenciji ljudi s društvene margine i o surovosti života u ratom okaljanoj stvarnosti.

/

Sándor Jászberényi is a Hungarian journalist and writer. As a war correspondent for Hungarian media, the New York Times, and the Egypt Independent, he has reported on the Arab Spring, conflicts in Gaza, the Darfur crisis, Syria, and more.

When he collected his Middle-East reporter’s experience in the book The Devil is a Black Dog: Stories from the Middle East and Beyond in 2014, critics were delighted: he was proclaimed a distinctive new voice, a kind of enfant terrible of the Hungarian literature. His hardboiled prose is uncompromising and cutthroat. Using a raw, concise language, he offers the readers a wide range of experiences of loss and suffering, and provides a faithful depiction of Middle East conflicts talking about hopeless existence of people on the social margins and about the brutality of life in the reality tarnished by war.

Two of his collections of stories have been published in Croatia: The Most Beautiful Night of the Soul, which won the Hungarian literary prize Libri in 2017, and The Crow King and Western Stories.

He was born in 1980 and lives between Budapest and Cairo. For the past year, he has been living in Ukraine and covering the ongoing war.

Giulia Caminito prvi je roman La grande A [Veliko A], nadahnut vlastitom obiteljskom prošlošću, objavila 2016. i njime osvojila nekoliko prestižnih književnih nagrada. Smješten u vrijeme talijanskog kolonijalnog carstva, roman među ostalim tematizira sraz zapadnjačke i afričke kulture.

Radikalno nepomirljiva, Giulia Caminito elegantnim stilom i preciznim jezikom progovara o neispunjenim obećanjima “bolje budućnosti” i razočaranju u snove čitave jedne generacije.

Rođena je u Rimu 1988. godine, gdje i dalje živi.

/

Giulia Caminito published her debut novel La grande A [The Big A[, inspired by her own family history, in 2016. She has won several prestigious prizes for it. The novel takes place during the Italian colonial period and talks, among other things, about the gap between the Western and African cultures.

The Water of the Lake is Never Sweet], was shortlisted for the Italian literary prize Premio Strega in 2021 and won the Premio Strega Off and Premio Campiello prizes. It has become a bestseller in Italy and has been translated into over twenty languages. It is a touching, angry story, and an upside-down bildungsroman, whose fascinating female protagonist clashes with poverty and class barriers. Radically uncompromising, Giulia Caminito uses her elegant style and accurate language to talk about unfulfilled promises of a “better future” and disappointment of an entire generation.

She was born in Rome in 1988, where she still resides.

Shida Bazyar piše jasno i aktualno, moćno i beskompromisno, često se fokusirajući na seksizam i rasizam. Njezin drugi roman Nas tri (Drei Kameradinnen) kritika je proglasila književnim iznenađenjem i jednim od najvažnijih njemačkih romana 2021. godine. U nas objavljen u izdanju Frakture i u prijevodu Snježane Božin, roman se hvata u koštac s problemima suvremenog društva – marginalizacijom drukčijih, rastućom ksenofobijom, jačanjem radikalne desnice – i ujedno naglašava važnost prijateljstva, zajedništva i humanosti.

/

Shida Bazyar has a clear, contemporary voice and writes powerfully and uncompromisingly, often focusing on topics such as sexism and racism. Her second novel Sisters in Arms (original title: Drei Kameradinnen) has been praised by the critics as a literary surprise and one of the most important German novels in 2021. It tackles some of the pressing issues of our time – marginalisation of the different, increasing xenophobia, strengthening of the radical right movement – and at the same time emphasises importance of friendship, community and humanity.

For her debut novel Nachts ist es leise in Teheran [Tehran is Quiet at Night], which was published in 2016 and has been translated into several languages, she has won several awards.

Shida was born in 1988 in Hermeskeil, Germany.
